Connecticut Men's Basketball vs Syracuse

Photographs of the game 3-6-2006

Connecticut (UConn) shot 65 percent from the field in the second half to put away Syracuse, 88-70, Saturday afternoon and earn a share of the Big East regular season conference title before another sellout crowd of 10,000+ at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion in Storrs,CT. This was UConn’s fifth win in a row and ninth straight victory in conference play. The Huskies’ record improves to 21-6, 13-3 in the Big East. This was also a meeting of the 700 club. Both Head Coaches Jim Calhoun and Jim Boeheim recently reached that lofty milestone of 700 wins. Both were presented with trophies by Big East Commissioner Mike Tranghesethe. The game itself was a terrific matchup of goliaths. Syracuse with it's premier players of Hakim Warrick and Gerry McNamara were outmatched and outplayed by UConn's ombination of super deep quality big men and a championship guard - Marcus Williams. The entire team turned up the defense in the second half to stifle any hope for Syracuse. Denham Brown (21), Charlie Villanueva (14) and Marcus Williams (10) were high scorers for UConn. Rashad Anderson UConn's leading scorer again did not suit up as he is still recovering from an infection.
