Connecticut Women's Basketball vs Notre Dame

The 7th ranked and 2nd seeded Connecticut Women Huskies defeated the Notre Dame Irish in the second round of the Big East Women's Basketball Tournament 71-60 at the Hartford Civic Center. Barbara Turner scored a team leading 19 points and sophomore Ketia Swanier added a career-high 11 off the bench. With the win, UConn improves to 27-4 overall while Notre Dame closes out its regular season at 18-10. After Connecticut scored the first basket of the game, the Irish came back with the next six to pull ahead. UConn quickly tied tied the score at 11-11 and then pulled ahead for good. UConn’s seniors contributed the first 11 points of the game with Ann Strother putting up three, Barbara Turner two and Willnett Crockett six. Notre Dame trailed by just seven with just under 7 minutes to play in the 1st half. Connecticut went on an 11-0 run to put the Irish away. At the end of the 1st half UConn led 40-24. The second half saw Connecticut toughen up their defensive effort every time it appeared the Irish were starting to mount a comeback. The Huskey Women didn't allow Notre Dame to get any closer than 11 points for the remainder of game.
